In September , shortly after fourteen-year-old Emmett Till, who was visiting family on summer break, was murdered by white supremacists in Money.
A historic marker commemorating Emmett Till has reportedly gone missing in the town of Money, Mississippi, just days after the 66th anniversary of his murder on August 28.
Till, a 14-year-old African American, was murdered during a visit to Mississippi in 1955 in a lynching that proved a catalyst for the Civil Rights movement.
Signs honoring him have been subject to vandalism in the past but it is not clear what happened to the marker in question.
The Emmett Till Interpretive Center shared a photo of the location with the missing marker through its official Twitter account on Thursday and noted that this week marks the anniversary of his murder.
The center wrote: "Today, we found out that the Emmett Till historical marker in front of Bryant's Grocery in Money, MS, is missing.
It appears to have been hit by a vehicle and removed."
The marker in question laid out the events surrounding Till's visit to the store and his murder.
In 1955, Till entered Bryant's Grocery to buy candy.
