Despite a six-month sentence for the additional offence of carrying the weapon, the attacker had to be released straight away because he had spent that period on remand.
Approaching 40 years old, he had escaped a major prison sentence.

One was his daughter's recovery after a serious car accident. The other was his acquittal for attempted murder.
Filled with religious zeal, he would call his mother to lecture her.
"He had met someone in prison who had advised or explained to him [the faith]," Mrs Ajao told the inquests.
"He would telephone - he would never stop talking about it - go on and on and on.
I would put the phone down, walk across the room and make a cup of tea and he would still be going on."
